Designer for Kyekyeku's "Higher Life on Palmwine" album art

2015

Described by CNN Africa as a ‘wizard with a guitar’ and by Forbes Afrique as ‘the little prince of Palmwine’, Kyekyeku is one of the Ghanaian artists of the new generation to watch out for. He draws mainly from Palmwine music, a less glamorous yet exciting tag for highlife music before it was restricted to the ballrooms by nouveau riche Ghanaians following independence as “highlife”. When he saw the "Take me to the Streets" exhibition by Illustrator Isabel Abreu and myself, he commissioned us to create the art for his first ever album.

We drew inspiration from the album title and the rural setting where palmwine music originated from.
